Andromeda (5.7% | 48 IBU) is a single hopped Pale Ale loaded with an astronomical amount of Galaxy hops. Look for flavors of peach, orange and freshly cut grass in this first-time aluminum hop holster. Special shout out to our Instagram audience for picking the can design!
Malts: Pale Ale, Wheat, Vienna
Talk about the origins of single hopped beers at Rhinegeist.
Long before the brewery was even open, I was making small batches of beer that were hopped with single variety hops. Like a chef, we brewers need to know what our ingredients taste like, and single hopped beers are a great way to profile how these hops manifest in a beer.
What flavors and aromas does the Galaxy hop bring to Andromeda?
Galaxy hops are grown in Australia, so the flavors that manifest out of Galaxy are different from most American-grown hops. Lots of stone fruit (especially peach), mango, and papaya notes are most common. Depending on the season and when they were harvested, some OG (onion-garlic) aromas and flavors can be present in low to medium levels.
What are the notable characteristics of this beer?
Lightly malty, fruity, easy to drink and not too bitter.
What are some other single-hopped beers that you dig?
Appearance: Dark gold in color with light haze. Medium persistent white head.
Aroma: Medium fruity hop aromas. Peach forward with light mango in the background. Low malt aroma, low fruity esters.
Taste: Medium-low malt flavor, light crackery/bready note. Medium hop flavor, quite peachy, with some light complementary citrus fruit (blood orange). Medium bitterness. Low fruity esters.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body, slightly creamy, low astringency. Very low alcohol warmth.
Overall: A complex, flavorful pale ale that shines with the brilliance that is the Galaxy hop.
What foods pair well with Andromeda?
Pineapple upside down cake or calamari with lemon aioli.
Ideal glassware for Andromeda?
I prefer the tulip glass for this one.
